When we created this portrait, we had no idea what lay ahead. The scarf was selected to accent Angie's green eyes. After the portrait session, the scarf was put away. The fond memories of our time together remained and the portrait graced our walls.
A year later, the scarf was pulled out once again. This time to cover her shaved head which bore a fresh, menacing scar. A brain tumor had been discovered. As I gave the scarf to her, we both re-lived its original purpose and the fun that we had enjoyed in the portrait session. Silently, we knew that life was forever changed.
The scarf was a reminder of the journey we are all on. Like the scarf, our purpose can change. The fact that we have a meaningful purpose regarding others is the important thing.
